Kathakari 2013

1994. I display some of my works at the Vancouver Art Gallery in Canada. I find out through a friend that Aashi lives sixty miles from here. A hundred kilometers is nothing when you think of how far Punjab is from Vancouver. I decide to visit her. She lives on a farm, growing grapes and plums. At first she is unable to recognize me, but when I call her Billi and reintroduce myself as Kuka, she connects the dots, embraces me and weeps, weeps with happiness because finally, someone from her village has travelled across the world and come to meet her.
